The Best Goalkeepers In The World Have Been Named And Ranked

The best goalkeepers in world football have been named and ranked - with three Premier League stoppers appearing in the top 10.

Manchester City's Ederson is second overall on football magazine FourFourTwo's keeper countdown. Still, it is beaten to top spot by Atletico Madrid ace Jan Oblak, with the Serbian all-rounder labelled "the benchmark for goalkeeping excellence".

Oblak is widely viewed as the world's best keeper, so it is a clear pick for the No 1 spot. However, Liverpool's
Alisson is only sixth overall, behind his Brazil teammate Ederson and Chelsea's Edouard Mendy (who takes the fifth spot).

Ederson's dazzling build-up play is naturally glowingly praised. Still, FFT also reports that "he's massively improved from a defensive standpoint this season," boasting the Premier League's third-best save percentage in 2020/21.

Chelsea's Mendy is also labelled a relative bargain at £22 million as the Senegal stopper is lauded for his performances on the big occasion this season.

Bayern Munich legend Manuel Neuer is still strong enough to take the third spot overall at age 35. In contrast, Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois is fourth - ahead of his opposite number at Barcelona, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, in ninth.

However, there's no place for Italy and AC Milan No 1 Gianluigi Donnarumma, nor for the first-choice Juventus goalkeeper: ex-Arsenal man Wojciech Szczesny. David de Gea's absence is less of a surprise, given he's currently behind Dean Henderson in the Manchester United pecking order.

You can see the full top 10 below and read FourFourTwo's full explanation for their list here.

10. Peter Gulasci (RB Leipzig)

9. Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Barcelona)

8. Keylor Navas (PSG)

7. Samir Handanovic (Inter Milan)

6. Alisson (Liverpool)

5. Edouard Mendy (Chelsea)

4. Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid)

3. Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich)

2. Ederson (Man City)

1. Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid)

Ten great keepers, although the biggest head-scratcher might be Samir Handanovic in seventh. The Inter captain has been an elite goalkeeper in his day, but the 36-year-old has been error-prone this season, even as Antonio Conte's side have marched to the top of Serie.
