Time to go down the list of football history's worst losses, but first, we have to note that we have selected this list, based not just on the results, but also on the game's consequences.

Often, football can be very unpredictable and cruel. During history, there have been several matches with outcomes totally unexpected.

So, what is the perfect way to celebrate the annihilation of football in years gone by? That's how we remind you of the most famous losses we've ever seen in our wonderful game.

Australia 31–0 American Samoa

In a qualification match for the 2002 FIFA World Cup at the International Sports Stadium in Australia, the two teams faced each other on 11 April 2001. Archie Thompson of Australia scored 13 goals, breaking the record for most goals scored in an international match by a player, and the team set a world record for the biggest win in an international football match.

This match was one of the worst defeats in the history of football, prompting FIFA to change the rules! It was, in truth, the biggest loss in an international match, and it came in the 2002 World Cup qualifiers.

FIFA also implemented a preliminary round in Oceania as a consequence of the match, qualifying to prevent such unbalanced matches in the future.

Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid

Right now, things are pretty grim in Spain's second capital, so we'd better give Barcelona fans somethito enjoy. 

Remember when Barcelona was the best side in Europe and gave a big old blow to Jose Mourinho's ego?

In another El Clasico, where Real Madrid was defeated, the two former rivals raced against each other.

Defeat in El Clasico is never anything to love, but Real Madrid's defeat in 2010 was particularly brutal. As Mourinho suffered the heaviest loss of his career, the difference in class was exceptional.

Chelsea 6-0 Arsenal

The match was the 1,000th game in charge of Arsene Wenger and was intended to be a good one, but instead, it turned out to be a catastrophe!

Arsenal was two points behind Chelsea just after 7 minutes of the game, while the Gunners were all over the place in defense. When Kieron Gibbs was sent off the pitch for a handball penalty, which was actually Alex Oxlade-handball, Chamberlain's things escalated.

As Arsene Wenger's Arsenal traveled to meet Mourinho's Chelsea side, Arsenal had one of their darkest nightmares and most devastating losses in football history back in the 2013/14 season

Manchester United 1-6 Manchester City

In October 2011, the noisy neighbors of Manchester United made an absolute racket when they hit six past their great rivals at Old Trafford - United's worst home soil loss since 1955.

One of the oldest in the football world and one of the most competitive is the old rivalry between the two teams.

However, back in 2011, for Sir Alex Ferguson and his squad, things went a little wrong as they suffered one of the biggest losses in football history, losing against the People

At the end of the season, City will go on to win their inaugural Premier League title, beating United to the crown on goal difference - thanks in part to this crushing victory.

The worst part was that, within the last ten minutes of the match, they conceded three of the six goals, making the loss one of the most embarrassing losses of all time.

Brazil 1-7 Germany

As we might all recall, that year, Brazil hosted the World Cup and reached the semi-finals. Everyone, therefore, wanted them not only to win the match but also the World Cup.

But what happened was totally out of mind as, with so much difference, the team lost its match against Germany!

Things turned out to be as the fans expected at the beginning of the match. The Brazilian team looked lost without their captain and Silva and, as a result, Germany scored five goals in 10 minutes and then completed the nightmare with two more goals in the second half, while Brazil could score only once!

Barcelona 2-8 Bayern Munich

Barcelona's defeat to Bayern Munich in the 2019-20 Champions League quarterfinals was one of the most humiliating defeats in soccer history.

It should also be remembered that Philippe Coutinho, a barca player who kicks the ball on loan for Bayern, was the player who scored two goals for his team with the second one just a minute before the end of the game.

However, that was not the end and the Bavarians scored 6 more goals in the next 83 minutes of the match, while only Luis Suarez could score a goal for the hosts!

The Blaugranas were all expected to win the game, or finish it as a draw at last. They not only didn't, however, but also lost the game with a 2-8 score!

Barcelona 6-1 Paris Saint-Germain

This result was one of history's most surprising results and one of PSG's worst defeats.

Barcelona, also referred to as La Remontada, which means the rebound, obtained the result in the second leg of the 2017 UEFA Champions League tie.

On 14 February of 2017, the first leg of the match was played at the Parc des Princes in Paris, with the hosts winning 4-0.

Barcelona, though, has proven to be the expert in triumphant comebacks, and that's just what they did in the second leg of the contest.

On 8 March at Camp Nou, they went against Les Parisiens and ended the match with a 6-1 score and won 6-5 on aggregate. It must be noted that this was the best recovery in the history of the UEFA Champions League.
